Risk assessment: the critical importance of harmonization and accuracy

Although risk assessment approaches vary within and across industries, it is safe to say that all OH&S professionals are looking for ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their specific program.

When no two programs are the same, it can be difficult to promote best practice that is useful for all, but there are commonalities within successful risk assessment programs. This paper will look to define the benefits of a comprehensive risk assessment program, what factors make a good program, and then focus on the linchpins of successful programs: accuracy and harmonization.

This paper will discuss how successful risk assessment programs:

  • Have mechanisms in place to ensure consistency in risk assessment procedures
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy in data collection and analysis
  • Have procedures in place to continuously improve their program over time
