Building the Business Case for Industrial Hygiene Programs

As an Industrial Hygienist, you are trained to perform the technical aspects of the job - identifying, controlling and eliminating risk, and training others on those skills—but, in the face of budgetary pressures, it is vital to be able to identify the overall value IH programs bring to the business.


Your goal is to ensure that industrial hygiene is viewed an integral function of the business not as an overhead. To achieve this you must be able to develop a convincing value proposition to show business executives that industrial hygienists manage enterprise risks and save costs. This means presenting a balanced view of the risks to the workforce weighed up against the costs of mitigating those risks.
